Course Details

Kursbeschreibung

This course teaches experienced Wireshark users the techniques used to identify network performance problems. Using trace files from a complex meshed network with multi-tier client-server applications, students are shown how to identify the origins of performance issues.

 

Extensive lab exercises are used to teach students how to evaluate delay times in both the network links and in active network components. The course demonstrates the effects on performance of typical application design errors, and the misconfigurations of servers, workstations and other network components.

 

Delegates also learn how to use the combination of Wireshark and MS Excel in order to calculate precise network throughput and delay times and create meaningful diagrams of these attributes.

  • Calculation of network delay times affecting client users / applications
  • Tracing TCP connections across NAT/PAT routers
  • Effects of proxy servers and load balancers on network response times
  • Locating the origin of excessive retransmissions, and their effect on performance
  • Analysing multi-tier client-server applications
  • Tracing HTTP client queries to database servers
  • Identifying bandwidth bottlenecks using trace files
  • Analysing protocol behaviour (e.g. SMB or database protocols) to detect application performance issues
  • Optimisation of routing protocols in networks with redundant links

Zielgruppe

This course is aimed at network administrators and engineers responsible for optimizing network performance and troubleshooting performance issues.

Voraussetzungen

  • Packet Analysis with Wireshark Analyzer (PAW)) and Advanced Packet Analysis with Wireshark Analyzer (APAW) course attendance or equivalent knowledge.
  • Networking background to the level of Interconnecting Cisco Network Devices Part 2 Version 3.0 (ICND2) or equivalent.
